The BIG race!

I am going to sound like the worst wife of the year here in a minute.

Jim is what you would call someone who has been blessed with a natural athletic ability...that he doesn't use.  Sure it comes in handy during summer months when he wants to wakeboard, but aside from the morning basketball games and lifting in the basement, he doesn't utilize his ability....unless it is called upon to prove to someone else how good he is in the athletic area.  Not only does he NOT utilize it, but he'll usually inform his mother that going to the gym every day is a waste of time and his latest victim is his little brother Jace for training for the half marathon.

Jace has been training, working hard to get ready for the race last weekend.  What should a good brother do?  A good brother would say...hey Jace...great job!  Good for you working so hard, applying yourself like you are!  Did his brother say that?  Nope....he instead said, "Bet I could show up the day of the race, not train and still beat ya!"  MEAN!  Granted, I understand the whole friendly brotherly banter, but I was pretty disgusted with him.  If Jim had come to me and said, "Mar...I'm going to run the half marathon."  I would have said, "Good for you!  Great Job!"  But when he told me WHY he was running, I told him that I hoped he lost.  Not only did I tell him that I hoped he lost, I told him I hoped he'd injure something so that maybe Karma would teach him to be supportive instead of teasing.

So I asked him the day before, when he came home sick with a head cold, whether he was STILL going through with this and he said he was.  I asked when to be at the park and his exact words were..."Uh....worst case scenerio I'd say 9:30"  (Even though I was against the dishonorable intentions, I was obviously still going to attend).  That night he borrowed some shoes from Jeff next door (he said he wasn't going to buy shoes that would cut into his winnings) and we went to bed.  The next morning, I got the kids bathed, dressed, hair combed and ready and we waited.  I get a call around 9:15 from Jim...wondering where we were.  I said, "Hon!  You said 9:30!"  He said that was WORST case scenerio!  I thought, did you give me a different time other than the "worst case scenerio?"

So we showed up.  Not only did he win the bet, he kept up with his Iron Man brother Jeff and tough as nails sister in law Melina!  How is it humanly possible to run 13 miles in 1:57 with no training, no preparation?  Where was Karma?

Ya...Karma showed up the next day when he couldn't move!  (I'm totally giggling to myself if you can't tell)  He is hurting so bad still, says that he'll never do something like this ever again...it wasn't worth the pain!

Almost the entire Burgess Crew ran. Bev, Jeff, Melina, Jace, Jayme, Jim, Cassie, and even the kids helped Grandma finish the last part of the race.....GO GRANDMA!

I think Jace died, or wish he had.  He had blisters up and down his feet.  That sounds fun!

Good job everyone, I have an awesome and wicked tough family!
